The artist
G-Wizz, The Slayer
G-Wizz, The Slayer is the visual practice of Knysna-based multidisciplinary artist Cameron Stander. Working in acrylic, canvas, and portraiture, he creates dark, surreal worlds shaped by fantasy, emotion, and a critical view of reality. His artistic roots include mentorship from Stanley Grootboom, while his visual influences range from Zdzisław Beksiński, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Takashi Murakami to contemporary artists Slawn and Jet Le Parti. His visual language is equally shaped by animation, anime, and comic-book culture, drawing inspiration from the surreal humour of Adventure Time and Rick and Morty, the worlds of Naruto and Dragon Ball Z, and the mythology and symbolism of DC Comics. These influences merge with his own artistic identity to create a universe where the absurd, the disturbing, the fantastical, and the philosophical coexist. Anti-religious and anti-establishment in outlook, Stander approaches his work through an agnostic worldview and a desire to see things as they are, questioning accepted narratives, institutional authority, and the systems that shape human thought. Proudly Coloured and Pan-African in perspective, his identity informs his relationship with culture, power, history, and belonging. He also holds a deep conviction that humanity is unlikely to be the only intelligent life in the universe, an idea that feeds into his fascination with extraterrestrial beings, alternative realities, and the unknown. Moving between paintings, album artwork, gallery exhibitions, and original webcomics, his work extends beyond the traditional boundaries of visual art. Each medium becomes part of a larger creative universe connected to Dreams Of Colour, where music, illustration, identity, and storytelling intersect.
